Sports Day

The excitement was palpable and the stretches were done...it was the day of something iconic,  something slowly trying to be sidelined as we hesitate to build competition into our children's lives.

sports day

Somehow in my mind it didn't match up to my memories of running up a grass track on sunny days, racing to get that first...the buzz...the cheers...the laughter.

But as I looked at our wee ones I saw excitement written all over their faces.  These are not my memories, rose tinted as they are, but theirs.

The giggles as they snatch glances with friends at their side.
Laughter as the teachers and the mummys race.
Pride as they lead their line back into class.

Sparkling eyes.
Competition.
Innocence.
Laughter.
Pure joy to watch.
